Unemployment Problem in Bangladesh

Unemployment is a great problem. This problem is prevalent everywhere. No country in the world is free from this. In our country, this problem is very acute and all-grasping.

Unemployment means the state of being unemployed. When a fit man gets no work to earn his livelihood, he is said unemployed. An unemployed man has to depend on others. He leads a miserable life. Life becomes a curse and burden to an unemployed man.

Bangladesh is a poor country. This country has a lot of problems. Unemployment problem is the greatest of them. Our plans and projects are being frustrated because of this unemployment The unemployment problem is increasing at an alarming rate in our country. There are many reasons behind this which are as follows:

i. Population growth: Bangladesh is a largely populated country. Its population is increasing day by day. Our resources and employment facilities are not increasing keeping pace with it. As a result, our growing population fails to get job. So they are bound to remain unemployed.

ii. Lack of job facilities: Ours is an independent country. No opportunity has yet been created for jobs after it has become independent. Still our country is passing days in want, hunger and diseases. Our economy is still very weak. Thus the lack of job facilities is accelerating unemployment problems.

iii. Increase of educated people: The number of educated people in our country is increasing. The educated youths are frustrated when they find the limited job scopes. These large number of educated people have to remain unemployed because of the lack of job opportunities.

iv. Political Unrest: The political condition of our country is very critical. Political unrest is destroying our country. Our political parties are involved in hartal, blockade, backbiting and other harmful activities. The ruling party is busy to cope with the activities of the opposition parties. So they do not concentrate to solve the unemployment problem of the country. The educated youths are falling under the destructive political activities.

v. Foreign dependence: After 39 years of independence, our country has not yet achieved economic stability. We have to depend on foreign aid. At this, the industrial institutions cannot be established. As a result, unemployment problem is created.

Unemployment problem has become a wide-spread problem in our country. We should not sit idle against this. We have to remove this. We should do the followings:

i. Creation of vacancies in government offices: The government should create more opportunities of jobs in its offices. If we can create more opportunities, our educated people will get jobs which will lessen the unemployment problems.

ii. New industries, mills and factories: We have to create new industries, mills and factories. There our educated youths will be employed and our manpower will be skilled. This will enhance our development and decrease the unemployment problem.

iii. Vocational education : Vocational and technical education should be included along with traditional education. At this the students will get jobs after completing their courses. Courses on agriculture, poultry rearing and breeding, sewing, wielding, etc. must be included in our courses. This will help to decrease the unemployment problem in the country.

iv. Agricultural development: Our country is agriculture dependant. Our economy depends on it. Our lands are fertile. We have to develop our agriculture sector. There our educated youths can be involved to grow bumper crops. If we can engage our youths in agriculture, unemployment problem will be lessened.

v. Cottage industry: Bangladesh has potential cottage industry. Though now-a-days, we have not our previous glory. But if we can regenerate this industry, our youths can be employed there.

Definitely, unemployment is a dangerous problem in our country. We have to remove this problem. Whatever may be the cause of it, we have to work unitedly for its removal. If everyone along with our government works together, the unemployment problem will be removed from our country.
