Climate Change in Bangladesh

Climatologists have long been expressing their concern about the changes that are taking place in the world's climate and the dangers that are associated with this change. Unplanned urbanization and industrialization has affected the world environment enormously. The enormous pollution of the environment is the most significant cause of the change of the world climate and Bangladesh is also under the threat of it. The climate changing mostly for the greenhouse effect. The balance of the environment is breaking for increasing the average temperature due to the greenhouse effect. Rapid growth of industry, vehicles and electronic gadgets are increasing the amount of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, methane and CFCs. The layer of carbon dioxide around the earth prevents the sun's heat from going out of the atmosphere and thus causes an increase in the world's temperature.

Industrially developed countries are mainly responsible for global warming. It is they who produce the biggest amount of harmful gases. They have innumerable industries and vehicles. Destruction of forests all over the world is accelerating the process of global warming. We know that trees absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen. But they are being cut down in large numbers.

Because of the rise in the world's temperature, the polar ice caps have already started melting. The huge amount of water produced there is flowing to the sea leading to a rise in the sea - level. This will eventually flood the coastal areas around the world. Thus sea-water will engulf vast tracts of farmlands and this will result in an acute food shortage.

Climate change has now become a burning issue. According to experts although the coastal countries will have to bear the brunt of global warming, others will not get off scot-free. Wild-fires, floods, cyclones and heat waves in different parts of the world are the signs of worldwide climate change.

It is the developed countries which will have to control the emission of carbon. It is high time we stopped deforestation and pollution of the environment. Otherwise, the future of our planet will be at stake.
